Time to child-proof the house...

2009-03-02 - 2:08 p.m.

I bought a small area rug for our living room at Ikea, with the thought that it would cushion my youngest precious childs head from bonking on our hardwood floors. But, when all is said and done, I am finding it much easier to clean up vomit spit-up if let him slither around the eat-in area of the kitchen on the wood. This is one thing Im looking forward to when the kid ACCEPTS SOME DAMN SOLID FOODS ALREADY, FERGODSAKES (another is maybe (maybe? pretty please?) some more continuous hours of sleep).

Our house is currently for sale. Weve listed it on a local sell-it-yourself site and will have an open house this weekend, but if theres no serious interest within the next week and a half well list it on the MLS with an agent. On the one hand, this is a great place and were priced right in the neighbourhood of the comparables. We have four bedrooms, a large lot and a pool and were in a family-oriented area. If theres ever a house that should be easy to sell on your own, this is it. Plus, weve considered getting into the real-estate biz, so this is a good trial of whether thatd suit us. Also, the commission would be almost 20 grand, which is not an insignificant amount of money to hand over.

On the other hand, we left it a bit late. We want to close mid-June and, while the several feet of snow would seem to say otherwise, really, its not that far away. It wouldnt be fair to wait until we were running short of time and then bring in an agent and say, oh yeah, by the way, we need you to sell this and have it close in the next 30 days.

You see what Im saying?

Anyway, weve got one showing request already and it just went up this morning, and two families have already seen it through word of mouth, so Im hopeful.

and time goes by

Okay, weve now had an open house and one agent has out-of-town clients that may be coming in this weekend to see the place. They used to live on our street and apparently always admired this house from the outside, and theyre moving back to the area and are excited to see that its for sale. Fingers crossed

Biscuit turns 9 months old tomorrow and just yesterday started crawling forward! Hes been skootching back like a break-dancer doing the worm for a number of weeks now, but he seems to have finally grasped the whole one-hand-in-front-of-the-other thing that was stymieing him up til now. This puts him almost spot-on with when Grommet started to crawl she was 9 months and a week.
